PHNOM PENH: The Phnom Penh Municipal Administration has asked citizens who self-test positive for Covid-19 to report to the authorities so a medical team can come to assess the patient's condition and location before authorizing their home treatment or instructing them to go to the hospital. Phnom Penh authorities have further warned to take legal action against those who refuse to report to health officials or local authorities about their positive Covid-19 case.

In the supplementary guidelines on the enhancement of the management, care and treatment of Covid-19 patients at home in Phnom Penh, it is stated that patients with permission for home treatment of Covid-19, including those with the Omicron variant who have mild symptoms or are asymptomatic, will have to agree to have authorities place a sign in front of their homes indicating their positive status.

Phnom Penh authorities warn citizens that they will take legal action against those who fail to report their positive Covid-19 status and try to privately treat themselves at home, and also ask neighbors to report any suspected cases to the authorities.

The instruction added, "The Phnom Penh Capital Administration encourages and requests that neighbors living near the home of a suspected Covid-19 patient who is secretly receiving medical treatment without evaluation and permission, to immediately report to any health official or the nearest local authority, and the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration will ensure confidentiality so that the local authority can take timely action to avoid the transmission of the Covid-19 virus, especially the Omicron variant, in the local community where they live.”
